Event Overview

WHEN THE SCHOOL CAMPUS BECAME A CYCLING ARENA

One of HASTPA's most important contributions has been taking competitive cycling to the age at which dreams are first formed.

Tour de Sanawar, held with The Lawrence School, Sanawar and its associated partners, began in 2018 as a professionally managed school and community cycling platform.

The inaugural edition attracted close to 100 cyclists. The second edition in 2019 hosted around 100 riders from seven schools. Following pandemic disruption, the event rebuilt its school and open categories. By the sixth edition in 2025, participation had crossed 200 cyclists from 16 schools and more than 20 cities.

IMPACT ON YOUTH

Tour de Sanawar brought together something rarely found in conventional school sport:

Adventure + competition + fitness + environmental awareness + professional event management.

Young riders could experience proper racing, categories, route discipline, safety protocols and sportsmanship within an educational environment.

Girls and boys could begin on the same trail that might eventually lead towards state, national or professional competition.

IMPACT BEYOND SPORT

The event demonstrates that educational institutions can become hubs for cycling culture—encouraging fitness, confidence, environmental sensitivity and low-carbon mobility.

Its growth from approximately 100 riders to more than 200 is also evidence of the expanding appetite for structured youth cycling.

THE LEGACY

Champions do not suddenly appear on national podiums.

They first need a bicycle.
Then a place to ride.
Then someone who believes that their first race matters.

Tour de Sanawar made that first race matter.
